Calling all Parents! Grab the kids, some sun block, and your camera - and head to downtown Anniston for the Noble Street Festival. As one of the headline events of this healthy family festival, the McWane KidZone has been GREATLY expanded for 2008!
Check out the activities below and look for some surprises at the festival. Many activities are free, some have a small fee. All McWane KidZone activities are located in the area of Turn 1 on the bike race course - at 11th and Wilmer near Expert Tire and the Wachovia Bank parking lot. Besides the KidZone, the family will enjoy great food, pro bike races, live music, art, a health expo, and more!
Just-for-fun Bike Races for Kids

Registration Fee
For the 4th year, we will host this healthy "competition" where kids ride/race several hundred yards on the same race course used by the pros - finishing at the official Start/Finish area in front of screaming parents and fans. This ever popular event is for tricycle to 6th graders and attracts almost 200 participants. Kids "race" in age groups by gender in this fun event. Gather at Downing's Store at 11th and Gurnee at 4:30pm to line up. Day-of registration can be hectic, but will be available at Classic on Noble until 4pm. First 300 registered guaranteed a t-shirt. $10 if pre-registered by May 2. $15 day-of. Click HERE for a flier containing a registration form and instructions.
Kids' Mellow Mushroom Mad Dash

Anniston Runners Club's Mellow Mushroom Mad Dash is a one lap running race around the actual 1K (.6-mile) bike race course downtown for kids! Register at www.annistonrunners.com or contact Race Director Nancy Grace at ncgrace@bellsouth.net or 256-831-6533. $12 pre-race fee. $15 day-of fee. Check in and register at the Runners Club booth near the Start/Finish on Noble Street. Special prizes to top 14-under male/female winners! Proceeds benefit Relay for Life! (Adult race will be run right after the kids' race.)
Kids can do both the Mad Dash and the Bike Race, but they will need to check in at Downing's, and then check in for the Mad Dash.
Hands-on Art for Kids

Art projects will be available all day! Look for such things as face painting, large art canvas painting project, chalk art, garden potting booth, hair wraps and beading for the girls, projects with Anniston Museum and McWane Center, too!
McWane Science Center Booth
11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The McWane Science Center will travel from Birmingham and showcase all sorts of neat science exhibits at this unique booth. Step right up to the Three-Ring Science Show! Explore the wonders of liquid nitrogen, the power of explosions, and the brilliance of color and bubbles through physical and chemical reactions. Catch the special presentation on the KidZone Stage at 3pm!
Anniston Museum of Natural History Booth
11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Our nationally acclaimed local museum will showcase all sorts of live critters and many exciting activities at this booth. Get close and personal with live animals from around the world. Museum staff will be on hand to give you lots of information about the animals and let you touch them if you dare! Naturalist Stephen Faughn will present from the KidZone Presents stage at 3:45 p.m. with snakes, lizards, chinchillas, ferrets, and more!
KidZone Stage

Gather in front of this stage for special presentations by the McWane Science Center and Anniston Museum of Natural History! The McWane center will showcase their ever-popular "Three Ring Science Show" with all sorts of amazing science experiments and chemical reactions (starts at 3 p.m.). At 3:45 p.m., the Anniston Museum will feature Naturalist Stephen Faughn, who will host an entertaining show with all sorts of live animals from around the world. You won't want to miss this UNPREDICTABLE presentation!
Anniston Library Bookmobile
11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This library on wheels services our whole region with wonderful reads year round. Come check out what's on board this vehicle as you enjoy the festival.
Wigwam

Hosted by Wig's Wheels, a local bike shop on Noble Street. For only $1, you can purchase a chance to win a cool TREK bicycle, which will be on display at this booth. There will be a helmet giveaway, as well. Pro Women and Pro Men cyclists will be on hand off and on during the day to sign autographs and take photos. Best time to try and catch them will be from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. These pros travel to Anniston from around the world and are always eager to answer questions and encourage kids to be healthy and ride bikes.
Anniston Army Depot Vehicles
11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

You won't be able to miss these guys! Huge army vehicles, including the Stryker, MRAP (Mind Resistance Armored Personnel), and Virtual Reality, will be on hand for your kids to explore. We are blessed to have the Anniston Army Depot and its employees in our community. Come out and see some of the vehicles that help to keep our country safe.
NASCAR Expo
11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

With the internationally known Talladega Superspeedway is in our backyard, we are excited to have their NASCAR Expo at the festival! This 18-wheeler truck will have all sorts of NASCAR things to explore - including the race cars themselves! Mom and dad may enjoy this exhibit more than the kids.
YMCA Basketball

Moon Jump, Climbing Wall, and Big Slide

Always popular with the kids, these activities will help them burn some energy while enjoying the festival. Festival tickets can be purchased on site for admission.
Service Vehicles Expo

Let your kids explore an Ambulance, Police Car, Fire Dept Pumper Truck, and more! Even the Anniston Fire Department's "Little House" will be at the festival. Special thanks to the Anniston EMA, Firefighters, and Police Dept for making this available to our kids!

Located in the McWane KidZone venue will be several restaurants providing food to keep your child's energy flowing! Enjoy Mellow Mushroom pizza, treats from Bonnie Ray's Bake Shoppe, kid-friendly food from The Vault restaurant, and ice cream from Wright Dairy! Drinks available from Red Diamond and Pepsi. Purchase food and drinks with festival tickets that can be purchased in the KidZone.
